Montessori Preschool Wellesley
Montessori Day School is located in the beautiful residential neighborhood of Wellesley Hills. It is bordered by the Wellesley Brook Path and Phillips Park which offer wonderful opportunities for exploring nature and physical fitness. The facilities include bright, sunny classrooms designed especially for young children, kitchen, yoga/creative movement room, an outdoor classroom, a playground, and a biking area. The preschool is conveniently located off Washington Steet in Wellesley. While most MDS families live in Wellesley we have also welcomed many students from the towns of Needham, Weston, Medfield, Natick, and Newton.
Services:
Children will be provided a traditional Montessori education that will be supplemented with new materials that meet requirements for encouraging order, concentration, confidence, and independence (OCCI). The preschool and kindergarten curriculum will be enhanced with the following activities: story time, creative movement, music, art, nature walks, physical education, yoga, and Spanish. Parents are encouraged to be active participants in the education of their children. They are invited to attend school events and to volunteer or observe in the classroom. Parent-teacher conferences will be provided in the fall and the spring to inform parents of their child’s progress. Teachers are also available throughout the year to meet with the parents or to correspond by phone or e-mail. Lead teachers are Montessori certified and hold MA Department of Early Education and Care credentials.
About the Director:
Mary Wall holds early childhood certification from the American Montessori Society and has a Masters in Library Science with a special interest in children’s literature. She is passionate about Montessori education and enjoys introducing others to this beautiful and amazing way to teach young children.
Goals and Objectives:
Children will explore, create, develop new skills, make friends, and experience true joy in learning at Montessori Day School.
They will be comfortable expressing their needs to their teachers and their peers.
Teachers will respect differences among the children and encourage acceptance of one another, thereby fostering a community atmosphere in the classroom.
Children will be directed to activities when they are ready for them in order to encourage progress in all areas of the classroom. Areas include practical life (everyday skills), art, sensorial, math, language, science, and geography. Children receive both individual and group lessons during the school day.
Teachers will get to know each child in a personal way in order to follow and encourage their academic interests.
Teachers and parents will work as a team to do what is best for the child. Since parents know their child best, parents will be encouraged to communicate any observations or concerns to the teacher.
